Face masks in New York City have become a fashion during quarantine times. Most people use face masks when going to the market or at crowded places.
As a New Yorker, I never thought I would see the day where face masks became a ubiquitous sight on the streets of the city. However, when the pandemic hit, it quickly became apparent that wearing a mask was crucial in preventing the spread of COVID-19. I remember feeling a bit self-conscious the first time I donned a mask in public, but as I saw more and more people wearing them, it became the new norm. It was a small sacrifice to make in order to keep myself and others safe.
The city quickly adapted to this new reality, and it was amazing to see the ways in which people made masks a part of their daily lives. Many stores began selling masks, and there were even street vendors selling handmade ones. I even saw some people wearing masks with unique designs or patterns, turning them into a fashion statement. It was a small way to express oneself while also doing something important for the community.
As time went on, the mask mandate became more and more ingrained in our daily lives. It was required on public transportation, in stores, and in any other indoor setting. It became a sign of respect for others, a way to show that we cared about the health and safety of those around us. It was a small inconvenience in the grand scheme of things, but one that we all willingly took on for the greater good. The pandemic may have been a difficult time, but seeing the ways in which New Yorkers came together to protect each other gave me hope for the future.
