I noticed the other day after brewing my favorite coffee at home that we still have all these red fire police call box all over New York City. In this age of the internet and high technology where everybody can just pull out their mobile phones and contact the fire department of the police.
Some years ago during the Giuliani and Bloomberg NYC government administration there were plans to remove these beautiful landmarks. But, many opposed to the law. And it makes sense, how about if the internet goes down? no smart phones or any new medium of communication? At least New Yorker’s can have a way of communicating emergencies. But, as you can see from the images I took many of these call boxes are there collecting trash or serving as a street decoration for some neighborhoods in New York City.
In the past you can located one of these call boxes by spotting a very cool old orange light bulb attached to a light pole in the street. I don’t think these bulbs are there anymore.
Let me know what you think in the comments section below the photos. Should we keep these call boxes? I think we should.
It’s a NYC landmark just like the phone booths in London. Hopefully NYC’s tourists will be taking selfies next to these boxes. First, we need to make them look more attractive.
